Concentration of Attention

In order to get yourself away from thinking about what’s going on in the auditorium and audience, you must be interested in something on the stage.  Stanislavsky found that we can concentrate on THE NEAREST OBJECT when it is necessary to gather our whole attention away from distant things and this REAL OBSERVATION naturally arouses your attention and desire to do something with an object.

Many exercises have been designed with developing this Concentration of Attention in mind.  Sometimes just being aware of your CIRCLES OF ATTENTION is enough to bring an actor back to their character’s task at hand, sometimes more specific exercises like Honey, I Love You are needed to combat specific issues, such as remaining unmoved in distracting and humorous situations.
